About the Conference

Covid 19 have experienced unprecedented challenges of migrant labour, particularly inter-state migration. While the migrant labourers were left in the lurch, labourers were required to walk unreasonable miles with their kith and kin to survive. The story of rural to urban and the cyclical migrant labourers are also nothing less worrisome. IIMK’s Centre for Employment Relations and Labour Studies in its maiden year want to draw the focus on the migrant labour their issues, policies and roles of different stake holders and aim to contribute to a better labour relations process.

The Centre invites academicians, policymakers, trade union leaders, business leaders, managers, government bodies, and scholars to present their ideas, case studies and research papers on the following topics (not restricted to)
  • Labour migration flows (permanent, temporary, circular and return)
  • How the Covid Pandemic has affected migrants in India?
  • What are the migrant strategies of adaption?
  • What is the approach of trade unions to organize and represent migrants?
  • How do migrants respond to competitive labour market norms?
  • How does the migrant affect the labour market?
  • Migrant labour and their psychological contract
  • NGOs and their role in dealing with migration and migrant labour issues
  • Local government, labour office and the way they deal with migrant labour (labour administration)

The focus of the conference would be on India including the multinational perspective or comparative perspective of India. The conference would be confined to Migration within India and would like to exclude international migration (immigration).

Submission Details

Full paper

The submissions are invited in the form of conceptual papers, literature reviews, policy papers, case studies etc. ranging from 6000-10000 words (including references). The manuscript must contain an abstract of 150-250 words and follow APA referencing style. Log on to the following link for Paper Submission.

Paper publications and awards

The top 10 papers could be published in a reputed academic journal. Moreover, selected papers will be published in the form of an edited book by a reputed publisher. The conference would like to honour the researchers with the best paper award and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.

The Conference fee includes the conference kit, the snack and lunch on the conference days. The participants need to take care of their boarding and lodging. IIMK may provide boarding and lodging to limited number of participants based on the first cum first serve basis on a chargeable basis.

Conference will be organized at the beautiful campus of Indian Institute of Management (Kozhikode campus).

In addition to these hotels limited number of accommodations is also available at IIM MDC.

For booking accommodation one needs to forward their request to the conference committee. The available rooms will be allotted on First Come First Serve basis. The rates per room for the MDC accommodation (including GST) are as follows:

Standard double (families): Rs. 4704/- per night
Premium single: Rs. 4032/- per night
