The ICA CCR Asia Pacific Conference and the working group on Cooperatives from Young Scholar Initiative (YSI), Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) present a unique opportunity to convene researchers within the cooperative sector, offering a platform to exchange resources and foster connections for future collaborations.

The field of cooperative research is growing in prominence, taking on increased urgency as we seek to address the challenges posed by traditional scholarly narratives, such as in economics, business and management, law, accounting, development studies, and finance. However, in different departments, it is still difficult to make the voice of cooperative scholars heard and to valorize it. It is within this context that the Young & Emerging Scholars (YES) Workshop can empower and connect emergent scholars who grapple with the complexities of conducting research in this expanding domain.

The YES Workshop is open to anyone interested to discuss with early career researchers. It is particularly addressed to master, PhD and post-doctoral students or those who has recently started a career in research institutions and whose main topic of research interest is cooperatives in its broader sense.

The YES Workshop will be organized as a pre-conference event, on Tuesday, October 15th and will last all day long until the Opening Ceremony of the Conference. The program unfolds featuring two sessions.

In the morning, a special session will be dedicated to discuss the future of cooperative research and how it will be created, designed, opposed and even expanded by new technologies, like artificial intelligence and blockchain. Senior professors, students, and emerging researchers will be able to debate and raise questions about how to harness technology and leverage digital platforms to do better research on, for and with cooperative enterprises. They will discuss challenges and opportunities posed by automation, artificial intelligence, the blockchain and the gig economy to cooperatives as well as how those can enhance productivity, collaboration, and decision-making within cooperatives. The morning session will be dedicated to exploring the question of how research can promote inclusive digitalization, which is key for a resilient and sustainable alternative business model based on democratic workplaces, equitable distribution of wealth, care for the environment, and community empowerment.

In the afternoon, the workshop will shape into a learning laboratory. After a brief introduction on the importance of effectively communicating research using social media, strategies for self-promotion, and building an influential online presence, the focus will shift to how to effectively create a research poster. The use of and insights into crafting an effective research poster for academia will be explored, and the laboratory activities will enhance scholars' presentation skills and confidence in succinctly conveying complex ideas. A learning experience for all, especially since poster presentations are becoming the norm in research conferences across the world. Participants will dedicate time to developing their research posters. The afternoon session will be facilitated by Prof. Sidsel Grimstad, senior lecturer at the Griffith Centre for Systems Innovation (GCSI), and Ann Apps from Newcastle University, Australia.

Thanks to the support of INET-YSI, eleven young and emerging scholars will have the opportunity to receive travel and accommodation grants to attend the conference. To qualify for these funds, scholars must participate in a selection process that evaluates the relevance of their research to the main conference topic and the YES workshop. Additionally, the selected scholars must submit an abstract and participate in the main conference.
