About Conference

POM India International Conference-2022 is an apt platform for academicians/practitioners to come together share and deliberate potential ways in which Operations Management as a discipline can be reimagined so as to contribute towards achieving a sustainable solution. The pandemic, global chip shortages, and shipping crisis has radically changed demand for products and services, while exposing points of weakness and fragility in global supply chains. These events have challenged business models of companies and forced them to reconfigure their operations, and transform their business models. The resilient companies have demonstrated new levels of visibility, agility, productivity and end-customer connectivity—while also preserving their cash. Understanding the world-wide impact of such disruptions (including climate crisis), the new normal is expected to be drive organizations towards providing sustainable solutions with focus on long term benefits to society, environment and economic. Such solutions should definitely be proposed with an eye on managing 3P’s (People, Profit and Planet) in the VUCA world.


The Objective of the conference is to provide platform for academicians, researchers and practitioners to:

ABOUT THE HOST INSTITUTE

Boasting of one of the most picturesque and oxy-rich campuses in the country, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode is one of the premier management schools established by the Government of India in 1996 as the 5th IIM of the country. It is dedicatedly devoted to nurturing future business leaders in teaching, learning, consulting, research, and innovation. The Institute is currently in its Silver Jubilee Year of existence (1996-2021).


The Institute is the recipient of AMBA and EQUIS accreditation. Currently it is one of the high ranked management institutes in India as per NIRF 2021 and QS World University Rankings released in 2022. The Campus is also home to the first Museum dedicated to Indian Business (established in 2013) in the country. ABOUT POMS INDIA CHAPTER

The Production & Operations Management Society (POMS) is an international professional organisation representing the interests of Production and Operations Management academicians and professionals from around the world. POMS India Chapter is a vibrant network of academicians and professionals in the POM discipline in India. The purpose of POMS India chapter is to support the POMS mission to provide a forum for knowledge-sharing, exchange of ideas, research collaboration, improving instructional pedagogy and curriculum, and sharing business best practices among the Production and Operations Management community in India and the global POM community. Further, the chapter aims to contribute to the POMS mission of globalizing the discipline of POM.

**International Participants are expected to submit as soon as possible so that if selected visa and other regulatory processes can be carried out in due time.

Paper Submission

Academicians, practitioners, and research scholars are invited to submit an abstract of continuous text (no bullet points, no math/Greek symbols) within 100 words describing their current research work. An author may submit no more than 2 abstracts to the conference. The title of the abstract shall not be longer than 15 words. Participants with accepted abstracts will have the option to submit full papers.

There are large number of hotels available in the Kozhikode city and nearby IIMK. In addition to these hotels limited number of accommodations is also available at IIM Kozhikode Guest House.

For booking accommodation one needs to forward their request to the conference committee. The available rooms will be allotted on First Come First Serve basis. The rates for the guest accommodation (including GST) are as follows:

LOCAL INFORMATION

Kozhikode also known as Calicut, is a city in the state of Kerala in southern India on the Malabar coast. Kozhikode is the largest urban area in the state and 195th largest urban area in the world. During classical antiquity and the Middle Ages, Kozhikode was dubbed the "City of Spices" for its role as the major trading point of Eastern spices. It was the capital of an independent kingdom ruled by the Samoothiris(Zamorins) in the Middle Ages and later the capital of the erstwhile Malabar district under British rule. Arab merchants traded with the region as early as 7th century, and Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama dropped anchor at Kozhikode on 20 May 1498, thus opening a trade route between Europe and Malabar. A Portuguese factory and fort functioned in Kozhikode for a short period (1511-1525, until the Fall of Calicut). The English landed in 1615 (constructing a trading post in 1665), followed by the French (1698) and the Dutch (1752). In 1765, Mysore captured Kozhikode as part of its occupation of the Malabar Coast.

While the city has been known in history under different names, Malayalam speaking communities have traditionally called it Kozhikode. The word calico, a fine variety of hand-woven cotton cloth that was exported from the port of Kozhikode, is thought to have been derived from Calicut. Kozhikode is a town with a long recorded history. From time immemorial, the city has attracted travellers with its prosperity. It has traded in spices like black pepper and cardamom with Jews, Arabs, Phoenicians, and Chinese for more than 500 years. As Kozhikode offered full freedom and security, the Arab and the Chinese merchants preferred it to all other ports. Kozhikode was the capital of Malabar during the time of Sri Samoothiri Maharajas, who ruled the region before the British took over. The city's first recorded contact with Europe was when Vasco da Gama docked at Kappad (18 km north) in May 1498, among the leaders of a trade mission from Portugal. On 7 June 2012, Kozhikode was given the tag of "City of Sculptures" (Shilpa Nagaram) because of the various architectural sculptures located in various parts of the city.
