Prof. Balan Sundarakani is an Associate Professor and Program Director for Master of Science in Logistics in the Faculty of Business and Management at the University of Wollongong (Australia) in Dubai. He has 21 years of teaching and research experience in the area of Supply Chain Management across the various universities including the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Chair of Logistics Management in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. Currently he is on the “Supply Chain Asia’s” Executive Committee member in Singapore and the Executive Board member for SCLG Middle East in Dubai. Dr. Sundarakani has published 121 research papers in the form of refereed International Journals, Book chapters and Conference Proceedings, which include; International Journal of Production Economics, Computers in Industry, Harvard Business Review Arabia, Omega, Competitiveness Review, International Journal of Logistics Research and Applications, The International Journal of Logistics Management, Benchmarking: An International Journal, Journal of Quality in Maintenance Engineering, The TQM Journal etc. He has won “Research Excellence Award” for his research performance at UOWD in 2010 and and 2021, Teaching Excellence Award (Highly Commended) in 2015 and “Gold medal for Best Case Study” from IIIE in 2010 and “Best paper Award” from IEOM, Bali, Indonesia in 2014. He earned his B.Engg (Distinction) in Mechanical Engineering from M.S University and a M. Engg (High Distinction) in Industrial Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, a PhD in Supply Chain Management from the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, India and a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship from the Logistics Institute Asia Pacific, NUS Singapore. So far, he has completed research and consultancy projects for the UOW Dubai, EDB Singapore, IBM, DHL, Ministry of Defence Singapore, Dubai Trade, JAFZA, Dubai Port World, EGA, EKFC and RTA Dubai. The total worth of his research and consulting projects are valued around S$2 Million plus AED 7,185,000.
